Dream Announces Training Camp Roster

ATLANTA, May 14, 2015 Ė The WNBA Atlanta Dream announced today its training camp roster for the 2015 season. The Dreamís training camp is slated to begin on Sunday, May 17.

The members of the Dream training camp roster will be competing for one of 12 final roster spots, which must be set by June 4. In addition to local training camp practices, the Dreamís training camp will include three days of competition in Louisville, Ky., capped by the Atlanta Dream Classic May 23, a pre-season game at New York on May 27, and a scrimmage against the Chinese National Womenís Olympic Basketball Team on May 31 at North Atlanta High School.

The Dream returns five starters from last yearís team that finished the regular season as the top seed in the Eastern Conference and reached the playoffs for a sixth consecutive season. Under the direction of second-year head coach Michael Cooper, the team is led by All-Star forward Angel McCoughtry, a two-time league scoring champion. Center Erika de Souza and guard Shoni Schimmel also earned All-Star honors in 2014, while forward Sancho Lyttle is a former All-Star as well. Guard Tiffany Hayes, the teamís third-leading scorer in 2014, also returns to the starting line-up.

While there will be many familiar faces on the roster, key newcomers include guard Roneeka Hodges, an 11th-year veteran who started all 34 games for Tulsa last season. Also joining the mix will be three players obtained by the Dream on draft night, including first-round selection (No. 10 overall) Samantha Logic, Brittany Hrynko, a second-round selection (No. 19 overall) who was acquired via a trade with Connecticut, and third-round pick Lauren Okafor (No. 34). Another third-round pick (No. 29 overall) Ė Ariel Massengale Ė will miss the 2015 season after recovering from knee surgery. The Dream will retain the rights to Massengale and Amanda Thompson, a member of the 2014 team who was injured while playing overseas.

The Dream will open training camp with a two-a-day practice on May 17, with the first practice scheduled for 9 a.m. and the second for 3 p.m., both at the Riverside EpiCenter. All practices are closed to the public and open to the media for the last hour of each day. Media interested in attending should contact Brad Gust in the Atlanta Dreamís media relations department, as practice times and locations are subject to change.

The three-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream opens its eighth season in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) on June 5 at New York, with the home opener slated for Sunday, June 7 at 3 p.m. ET vs. the Connecticut Sun. The Dream, which plays its home games at Philips Arena, has qualified for the playoffs in each of the past six seasons, winning conference titles in 2013, 2011 and 2010.
